SERVICE: Custom Fabrication

In February 2020 we were hired to build a 1:20 scale architectural model of the soon to become newly renovated Geffen Hall at Lincoln Center. Beyond being a breathtaking piece of fabrication complexity, the model is actually designed to be used in acoustic testing in order to refine and perfect the architecture for sound design. After delivery at the office of the sound engineers, tiny microphones are placed inside the model to measure the way sound waves react with the architecture of the room. The model is designed to open and lock shut in three segments to allow for the placement of the microphones and sound equipment. The stage area is decked with adjustable ceiling panels that can swing and orient to deflect and craft the sound response as needed.
The concert hall is made up of over 3,000 independent parts and built entirely of plywood, hardboard, and HDU foam expertly finished with white lacquer. This project was made possible thanks to the design skills of Pietro Pagliaro (Adelphi Construction) and Ben Koren of OnetoOne.
